2018 Spring Fairs sparkled in Shanghai

During March 14th - 16th, a combined show including Intertextile Shanghai Apparel Fabrics -Spring Edition, 2018 China International Clothing &Accessories Fair (CHIC) (Spring Edition), Intertextile Shanghai Home Textiles - Spring Edition, Yarn Expo Spring and PH Value - Spring Edition was staged in National Exhibition and Convention Center (Shanghai), covering nearly 400,000m2 exhibition area and gathering over 5,300 exhibitors to create the industry’s biggest spring / summer gathering of the entire supply chain.

As a grand meeting in the industry at the beginning of each spring, displayed in this combined show are achievements obtained by strenuous textile persons from raw materials in the upstream to production and technology, then to fabrics and accessories and until to product display. Intertextile Shanghai Apparel Fabrics- Spring Edition

Intertextile Shanghai Apparel Fabrics is the undisputable leader when it comes to providing business outcomes for the global textile industry. The global sourcing summit that is Intertextile Shanghai wrapped up with a huge 15% increase in the buyer figure to 82,314 from 104 countries and regions (2017∶ 71,450,103 countries and regions), to go along with the 3,386 exhibitors from 22 countries and regions (2017∶ 3,341,26 countries and regions) that exhibited at the National Exhibition and Convention Center. Strong growth was registered in buyers from China Hong Kong, Korea,Japan and India – this edition’s top four countries and regions – while Italy and Bangladesh entered the top 10 list this year, in eighth and tenth places respectively,alongside the U.S., China Taiwan, Russia and the UK.

“After the strong increase in the buyer figure at last October’s Autumn Edition and the generally favourable outlook of the global textile industry in recent months, we were expecting a strong result this year, but the increased number of exhibitors and buyers placing their trust in this fair as their main business platform has completely exceeded our expectations,”Ms. Wendy Wen, Senior General Manager of Messe Frankfurt (HK) Ltd. explained after the fair. “We put this exceptional result down to the fact that there is no other industry event that matches Intertextile Shanghai’s scale, but most importantly that year after year the fair delivers new contacts from around the world and actual orders & business results for exhibitors.With the quality & quantity of buyers this edition and the tangible outcomes reported to us by exhibitors, the fair has reached a new level as the kick-off event for the spring / summer season.”

Just one of the many exhibitors to echo these sentiments was first-time French lace exhibitor Jean Bracq. “We are here to promote our lace to worldwide markets,” Mr. Philippe Larrieu, Responsible Commercial Export, said. “A lot of people have come to our booth, including from China, Australia, India, France, the U.S. and more.On the first day we had already received 60 sampling enquiries – even our catalogue ran out! So the result is beyond our expectation. At this fair, we not only meet new buyers, but also see our existing customers which we usually meet in fairs in Paris.”

Seven halls and 187,000 sqm., equal to 2017, were in use at this edition, with everything from fabrics for ladieswear, menswear, suiting,shirting, lingerie and swimwear to high-end wool fabrics, original pattern designs, functional & performance fabrics, sustainability products &services, digital printing technologies, garment & fashion accessories and more on display. Growth areas this edition included the Premium Wool Zone, with the exhibitor number doubling from last year, re flecting the evolving use of wool in spring/summer collections. The international area of the Beyond Denim zone also doubled in size this year, while overseas presence in Accessories Vision grew by 73%.

Orta Anadolu are set to change that with their BIOWARE denim which is enriched with mineralised volcanic ash to create an odour absorbing effect. This technology captures and absorbs odour compounds that would normally pass through the fabric, neutralising bad bacteria while retaining the helpful bacteria that common deodorisers, which contain harsh substances, normally eliminate. This leads to a more environmentally friendly product that is better for the user’s skin.

Orta presented BIOCHARGE at Intertextile, which, according to the company, is the world’s first denim fabric for muscle wellness. Infused with minerals, Orta state that BIOCHARGE is medically proven to refresh muscles, relieve muscle tension and optimise body balance. They also presented their BOUNCE stretch range, with high elasticity and a ‘street’style, while CHRONICLE, another in their S/S 19 range, is a blend of heritage and future styles.

Included in this edition’s Japan Pavilion are three companies from the Nishiwaki region, which is famous for its ‘Banshu-Ori’, or Banshu weave. Banshu-Ori is a yarn-dyed fabric, woven into various patterns,such as checks and stripes, with yarns that are dyed before being woven by weaving machines. This tradition dates back to 1792, and was showcased by Bon Co., Ltd., Ueyama Orimono Corp and Kuwamura Co.,Ltd. at the fair. Bon showcased a range of new products using this traditional technique, including organic cotton fabrics, paper yarn fabrics and indigo items.

After the pattern is transmitted to computer, all kinds of effects can be printed out through software processing of color cards!Using principles of printer, this printing machine realizes digital printing with unlimited patterns, dimensions and fabrics, and printing speed can reach 50m2/h.

Dover moved 3.2m-width machine to the exhibition, which soon became the focus of the numerous camera lens. Technical service supervisor in MS China Zone Liu Dong introduced that “this machine has been con figured with 8 colors at present, which saves color separation process for traditional dyeing. 10 colors can be managed by traditional machine at most, but this machine doesn’t have color limitation and can realize completely individualized services.”

Quantity of works submitted to the contest has increased by three times compared with the last contest, and total quantity of excellent works has also exceeded those in previous years. Intertextile Shanghai Home Textiles –Spring Edition 2018

The 2018 Spring Edition of Intertextile Shanghai Home Textiles concluded on March 16th with positive business outcomes generated. Being held during the peak sourcing season for home textiles finished products in China, the three-day show attracted 12% more buyers than last year. A total of 20,870 visitors (2017∶ 18,596) from 68 countries and regions came to source a wide range of finished products including bedding, towelling and table & kitchen linen. 232 exhibitors from 11 countries and regions(2017∶ 204, eight countries and regions) including well-known international brands such as Cotton Council International and Asahi Kasei as well as domestic big names like Ruyi, Sunvim and Yueda participated and praised the show as one of the most effective trade platforms at this time of the year for home textiles industry.

“Thanks to the revitalized market conditions in China and the increased number of buyers, our exhibitors have had a successful show. Not only did they receive onsite orders and make contact with new clients, but they also valued Intertextile Shanghai as a channel to build up their brand so as to expand their business network in China. Apart from the stronger Chinese market, another reason for the buyer increase this year was the large growth of the four concurrent fairs. This resulted in a more diverse buyer pro file with increased demand from different textile industry sectors,” Ms. Wendy Wen, Senior General Manager of Messe Frankfurt (HK)Ltd. said.

High-end products full of innovation

During this edition, the exhibits mainly focused on bedding, towels and other products. Overall, there has been a significant breakthrough in product design, R&D and innovation. The booth design has also showed a trend to the households.

In the exhibition, Hongliu occupied an area of nearly 500 square meters. Its digital printing series of bedding weaving with the most advanced MS digital printing machines adopts imported custom active inks with clear printing. Datang Princess made its debut this year, positioning the product in a new Chinese style, using many elements of Suzhou gardens. Menglan attached great importance to research and development,and its products are more abundant than before. The style is simple,elegant and light luxury. The person in charge said that these changes are based on a survey of the consumer market. Now Menglan has begun to focus on the young consumer market and conduct research and design based on their taste and preferences. Ruyi launched a set of bedding valued at more than 40,000 RMB at the booth. It was introduced that the product was made from cashmere and silk,and used its special “Ruyi spinning” process, mainly for high-end and gift markets. MUJI exhibited in the form of households this year, showing towels, bedding and home accessories.

This year, a total of 7 home textile industrial clusters appeared at the show. In addition, JD.com deepened its cooperation with the exhibition and adopted an open exhibition area to connect with home textile companies and exhibitors.

Fringe programme brought insight to fairgoers

Apart from concrete business outcomes, the fair’s fringe programme, including the Intangible Cultural Heritage Zone and a series of forums, further enriched the three-day show. Fairgoers were fascinated by the presentation of unique and traditional textile production and processing techniques from Chinese ethnic minorities in the Heritage Zone. While the forums that discussed topics from consumption upgrade to the newest technology applications were another success as they provided extra opportunities for industry players to share their insights and learn the latest developments.

Yarn Expo Spring 2018

Yarn Expo continued its evolution into the industry’s most comprehensive and effective business platform with its Spring Edition which concluded with a large increase in the buyer figure, as well as another year of growth in the exhibitor number. Strong demand was evident for recent growth areas of the fair such as synthetic, fancy and specialty yarns as well as chemical fibers, while exhibitors in the more traditional cotton product group also fared well. In total, 435 exhibitors from 10 countries & regions took part (2017∶ 393,12 countries & regions), attracting 25,966 trade buyers from 88 countries & regions (2017∶ 22,579, 94 countries & regions).

“Once again, Yarn Expo proved itself as the ideal trade fair for the industry to benefit from changing demands and product trends, especially in the Chinese and wider Asian markets,” Ms. Wendy Wen, Senior General Manager of Messe Frankfurt (HK) Ltd. explained. “The fair has evolved in recent editions to have a much bigger focus on synthetic, fancy & specialty yarns and chemical fibres, and based on the exhibitor feedback during the fair, there was an increase in buyers sourcing these products this year. What’s more, local buyers were showing strong interest in the offerings from Southeast Asian countries such as Indonesia and Thailand, while Vietnamese cotton exhibitors reported increased orders from China due to the favourable trade policies between these countries.”

As one of the industry’s leading players, Birla Jingwei Fibers naturally plays a big role at Yarn Expo,with their Birla Planet pavilion proving highly successful for the company. Senior Vice President Mr.Sachin Malik, explained∶ “Yarn Expo is a very important platform for Birla, to be visible to our value chain,to connect with our customers, and our own clients’customers. We value Yarn Expo as a long-term part-ner for showcasing our products and connecting with the value chain. Each edition we connect with more and more buyers, and more customers in the industry recognize the importance of this fair. It has developed into a premium event in the global textile industry calendar. Usually this edition is quieter than the autumn fair, but the results this year saw the spring edition reach the same level. Our booth was always packed with buyers, and we also received more high-quality and international buyers. Our pavilion members are also very satis fied with the buyers and their results this time.”

Eight groups stroke a pose on the stage,showing their strength

Since the inception of the exhibition, the exhibitor constitution has been transformed from single and independent enterprises into exhibition groups with large varieties, large clusters and large enterprises gradually.Powerful exhibition groups with their unique characteristics have emerged one by one. Of course, this also responds to continuous innovative development and transformation & upgrading of China Textile industry.

However, it’s noteworthy that quantity of scale and exhibition groups in this Yarn Expo have both reached historical large. 7 domestic major groups —Xinjiang, Dalang Textile Network, Sateri, Graphene Alliance, Strategic Alliance for Technology Innovation in the Chemical Fiber Industry, Hi-Tech Group and Shanghai Textile Group — have clamped down hard on this expo. Overseas exhibition group was Birla Group.

Xinjiang group was led by the government with 12 enterprises participating in the expo to display different varieties of Xinjiang cotton yarn; China Dalang Textile Network group was led by e-commerce platform with 17 enterprise participants; there were 10 enterprises in Sateri exhibition group, coming from upstream and downstream cellulose fiber industry; Graphene Alliance exhibition group was led by SQ Group,and 12 enterprises from China Strategic Alliance for Technology Innovation in the Graphene Industry participated in the expo; Stategic Alliance for Technology Innovation in the Chemical Fiber Industry was led by China Textile Academy with 14 enterprises participating in the expo. Besides, 5 subordinate companies of Hi-Tech Group participated in the expo, displaying all kinds of high value-added fiber products of Hi-Tech Group; main products brought by 8 enterprises in Shanghai Textile Group are differential functional polyester staple fiber (Different), Lyocell fiber with special functions and bamboo Lyocell fiber.

Xinjiang group is a large exhibition group attracting much attention on Yarn Expo in recent years. Driven by the “Belt & Road” Initiative and energetic development of textile and apparel industry in Xinjiang,Xinjiang has attracted numerous textile enterprises for investment and development, enjoying high-speed development of textile and apparel industry. Yarns produced by Xinjiang textile enterprises are mainly pure cotton yarn and viscose yarn. According to statistics of the autonomous region, the whole region saw 13.14 million cotton textile ring spinning spindles, 426,000 ring-spun yarn spinning spindles, 18,000 weaving machines and 850,000t viscose yield up to the end of July in 2017.

Graphene Alliance group made its debut on this Yarn Expo this year, and one responsible person expressed that, “graphene-related enterprises take a part in this expo in the form of alliance, aiming at collectively displaying industrial chain of graphene application and presenting product R&D bright spot, and as a result terminal brands will continue their heat degree,develop and expand alliance platform, improve domestic and international in fluence of the alliance, facilitate cooperation in the industrial chain and further expand application fields.”

Graphene can be said as a highlighted new material in recent years. Usage of graphene for textile industry has been explored in recent years and it has drawn much concern. Principal in charge of this exhibition group expressed that, “enterprise participants in this alliance are well-known enterprises in domestic textile industry with extremely strong consciousness of innovation, R&D capacity and productivity, continuously leading the market trend. Products of these enterprise participants cover a full series of textile products like yarn, cloth, underwear, apparel and home material,and all of these products have used graphene-modified fibers, not only reaching upgrading effect on existing products but also motivating enterprises’ product development idea and bringing favorable bene fits.”

Besides domestic seven major groups, foreign exhibition groups are also well prepared this time with great strength. Eight enterprises from Birla Fiber group participated in this expo, and their main products are regenerated cellulose fibers. It’s well known that strategic products of Birla Fiber are∶ Birla viscose,Birla Modal, Birla rainbow fiber, Birla Luocell and other differential products. Another objective of Birla is to make preparations for the next establishment of industrial chain for Birla modal and Birla rainbow fiber industry.

Dong Ping, Senior manager in marketing department of Birla Fiber expressed that, “Birla was an unfamiliar brand when it entered China three years ago. Today we become widely known, more and more fashion clothing brands designate us as their supplier,our exhibition stand is crowded with people during this expo, and besides Chinese buyers, there are also many buyers from Europe, America and Japan, including many of our key target client bases, like H&M.This rare opportunity and extensive buyer groups are exclusive in this fair.”

Besides Birla, enterprises from India and Pakistan have also brought their most powerful suppliers. Indian and Pakistani products have certain price advantages with great competitiveness in middle and lowend markets, and exhibitors in the two countries are fully con fident in this expo.

High quality run through the whole Expo

Yarn Expo has always been positioned as an “all categories and one-stop” upstream raw textile material purchase platform. There is no exception in this Expo, as it still covered numerous upstream fiber yarn products like linter silk and linen, chemical fiber and fancy yarn, etc., totally divided into domestic exhibition zone and overseas exhibition zone, where the former included seven major zones∶ creative fancy yarn zone, functional chemical fiber zone, natural cotton yarn zone, quality wool yarn zone, green linen zone,e-commerce zone and overseas exhibition zone. It’s noteworthy that exhibits in various exhibition areas have embodied “three Pin” (variety, quality and brand)Strategies implemented by the manufacturing industry in recent years, and each enterprise brought their own products and images which can embody “variety, quality and brand” most.

Creative fancy yarn zone has been vigorously promoted by Yarn Expo in recent years. The exhibition area has gathered over 70 well-known fancy yarn enterprises with increasingly expanded scale. The combined show is a large background for Yarn Expo, covering advantages of the whole industrial chain from fiber, yarn to fabrics to final home textiles and garments, bringing more business opportunities for persons occupied in this industry. Fancy yarn manufacturers have gradually been attracted by this large-scale and all-category comprehensive joint exhibition. By participating in the Expo, these manufacturers obtained downstream demand information and captured market positioning so as to seek for larger development opportunities. Enterprises in this fancy yarn zone mainly brought numerous extremely creative products like tinsel, colorful section dyed yarn, loop yarn, flake yarn, spiral yarn and knot yarn, etc.

Natural cotton yarn zone is a key zone each year, and the principal in charge of this exhibition zone expressed that, “under the overall background of national continuous reinforcement of structural reform at supply side, cotton textile industry lays the emphasis on developing differential fibers like colored spun yarn, colorful cotton yarn, multicomponent yarn and functional yarn as well as high count yarn products with higher comfort degree, etc. In this expo, Wuxi No-1 Cotton-represented traditional outstanding cotton yarn enterprises have occupied the market through equipment upgrading, technical transformation and fine management with high-end and high-quality boutique pure cotton yarns. Dezhou Hengfeng and Shandong Long Run-represented differential yarn enterprises will bring differential yarn products with rich varieties and diversified performances, and these products have unique appearance styles and extremely good wearability, which are successfully researched and developed by combining raw dyeing materials and new-type spinning technique through equipment transformation and recreation of technological process. They can fully meet consumers’ requirements for higher degree of comfort,beauty and environmental friendly property of textiles after upgrading of consumption structure.

Functional fiber zone consists of four major theme zones “China Fibers Fashion Trends 2018/2019”, “innovative functions”, “green and environmental protection” and “industrial alliance”, and over 150 domestic chemical fiber enterprises have collectively displayed overall strength of China chemical fiber industry,showing technological achievements of innovative development of Chinese fiber enterprises, responsibility concept of green development, cooperative and winwin development trend and new solutions provided to meet people’s requirement for beautiful life when standing at the origin of textile industry.

Over 10 enterprises take part in the expo in quality wool yarn zone, collecting brand-name and high-quality boutiques. Wool yarn products, famous for high added value and outstanding performance,which are fashionable and elegant, meet requirement for consumption upgrading. Tongxiang Yide Textile displayed wool blended yarn, silk wool blending series, silk line blending yarn and other products;Jiangsu Danmao Textile showcased all kinds of fine spinning yarns and semi-worsted spinning yarns. In green linen zone were mainly Shanghai Jiayu Textile,Changzhou Feilu Commerce and Trade, Hubei Jinghua Textile, Tongling Worldbest Linen & Ramie Textile, etc., and exhibits they brought are ramie yarn,linen yarn, ramie-cotton blending yarn, ramie-viscose blending yarn, spandex core spun yarn, linen tencel yarn and plant-dyeing textiles.

More diversified upstream and downstream communication

Today, Yarn Expo is not a pure commerce &trade or exhibition platform any longer. Numerous wonderful activities in this same period have attracted extensive attention from upstream and downstream,especially many press conferences were held for numerous fiber products when driven by release activity of “Shenghong·China Fibers Fashion Trends 2018/2019”.

CHIC 2018 Spring

In ten major exhibition zones and three major exhibition-in-exhibitions covering 117,200m2, CHIC 2018 Spring gathered 1,210 exhibitors and 1,395 brands from 21 countries and regions, welcoming 112,666 professional visitors within three days.

Brand-new exhibition visiting experience

Within the three days, Chinese persons occupied in garment industry have shown their passion and expectations accumulated in the last winter. Brand-new exhibition visiting experience is used in this CHIC to transmit “young” trends, causing resonance between persons within this industry. Different brands and enterprises have made response with new products, new images and new patterns.

In men’s wear zone, Ruyi Group brought over 30 internationally famous clothing brands like Royal Ruyi, Aquascutum, DURBAN and Sandro come on the stage with large exhibition areas, showing rise of a world-class fashion group.

Numerous high-quality brands in the women’s wear zone make a vigorous stage pose. The brand 5secs created independent, vigorous and individualized dressing style, while CHANSARR manifested gentleness and elegance of the Orient. Numerous women’s wear enterprises showed their special prowess and conducted in-depth communication with domestic and foreign merchants.

There are unceasing bright spots in original fur and feather zone. International Fur Trade Federation(IFTF) carried two major fur clothing auction companies NAFA and SAGA as well as international top-end fur clothing brands from multiple countries to come on the stage of CHIC.

ACCADEMIA from Italian group in global fashion zone brought boutique shoe products. This brand has added more gorgeous crystal decorative design according to Chinese consumers’ preferences; principal in charge of the Italian brand LE FATA who has participated in exhibition for many times expresses that,“the brand should certainly continue to participate in CHIC so as to master market and business opportunities”. Principal in charge of export for the Italian Ciintellie Galluzzo surprisingly found that it has not only harvested numerous Chinese clients but also received clients from South Korea and Japan.

At present young consumer group with individualized and diversified demands has gradually become the mainstream, and their vitality and new thinking are becoming creating brand-new development space for China fashion industry. Therefore, it’s not difficult to find that brands and enterprises focusing on individualized design and creative culture have been energetically welcomed; Audiences are in an endless stream in Impression·Utopia in fashion bags and suitcases exhibition area. The brand has made splendid achievements for continuous three editions,and the products it exhibits are packaged and bought while harvesting many clients; Zhonggang Leatherware Mall from Guangzhou has made its first appearance, bringing 8 different styles of bags and suitcases brands, and it has harvested a lot since the first day with prominent effect.

Meanwhile, E-fashion Town in design power zone has gathered designer brands like B+By Beautyberry,Fenshuiqi, DEA+ROZE, Artistic Living Space, etc.,thus becoming the hotspot concerned on the site; Jinghao Clothing, SIGO Clothing, Xingzoujian Clothing and so on in ODM intelligent manufacturing zone have harvested cooperative intentions of a large batch of professional buyers with extremely strong R&D capacity with the contact achievements far exceeding what’s expected.

Emerging forces with continuous innovations

Consumption upgrading is calling for young, individualized and fashionable products and brand having higher identification degrees, and CHIC 2018 tries to guide us to interpret multilayer meanings of “young”.Entering overwhelmed exhibition areas, you will understand innovative connotations under appearance of vitality.

“Young status” is the desire for innocence. In kid’s wear zone, balabala, Mongdodo, Marcolor and school uniform brand Hey Junior subordinate to Semir Group have made a stage pose on CHIC. The principal in charge of this exhibition area expressed that fashionable young generation has become the main consuming power, and Semir has realized integration,optimization and upgrading in multiple aspects like product R&D, channel layout and service experience.

“Young status” is innovation of operation pattern. Yisijia from Pinghu group has closely combined functional clothes with sports, exercise and travel to construct “life experience space” and “outdoor exercise club”; LIN Edition Limit has been sold through online celebrity live broadcasting, owning over 4 million members so as to form an integrated advantage of design, production and sale.

“Young status” has overturned manufacturing paradigm. In superlarge exhibition hall of Hodo (504m2),all kinds of “black technologies” were gathered here,not only exhibiting “unmanned retail store”, “intelligent fitting room” and “magic dressing mirror” but also displaying new technologies like “cloud goods shelf”and “data screen”, etc.; M SUYA brought visualized production management system, and panty production status was re flected on intelligent manufacturing screen one by one.

“Young status” is exploration into new retail. Regent Software in Linking Future Zone brought products and services like Regent intelligence store, Regent INNO small program, full micro BI, shopping guide APP, etc. These interesting products and services with absolute sense of science and technology have brought fresh experience to the merchants and more importantly, they have brought re flection and enlightenment to colleagues within the same industry.

“Young status” is also inheritance and iteration of operators. More and more fresh faces in the generations after the 70s, 80s and 90s have appeared in CHIC. From young designers bursting creativity to young and promising second-generation entrepreneurs and to new-generation buyers, they are in high spirit,taking over the relay baton for industrial development and presenting new-born forces with unlimited potentials in China fashion industry with broad vision and advanced concepts.

Effective commerce and trade contact

“5 boxes of business cards have given out completely very soon”, “big orders have been received from purchasers and supermarkets within 20 min since the beginning of the exhibition”, “half of this series of new products have been bought out” … Exhibitors on this fair were still happy in busy activity, showing their satisfaction in talk and face expression and filled with expectations and con fidence in the future.

High-quality orders in this edition were extensively praised again with triumphant news keeping pouring in various exhibition zones∶ in fashion accessory zone, visitors were in an endless stream on exhibition booth of LEONARDO which took part in the exhibition for the first time, and the principal expressed that the effect had far exceeded what it was expected; HASUPTAM consulted with over 80 intentional agents.Fashion brand MONKEY KING welcomed over 1,100 visitors and reached alliance intentions with more than 200 people; JPE received more than 1,300 people on the site and more than 300 people had intention of joining in this brand.

“We have to say that CHIC is truly a core platform and resource center within the industry!”. Designer brand Huamushen which came to the exhibition again harvested over 150 clients which had intention of placing orders.They enjoyed abundant harvests, not only accurately and highly ef ficiently contacting buyers but also getting acquainted with many upstream and downstream cooperative partners in supply chain like manufacturers and department stores, etc.

Besides of fline face-to-face communication, online information has already linked to great capacity of exhibition and trade contact — CHIC of ficial APP and of ficial Wechat account have released over 200,000 commerce and trade demands from professional visitors and over 700,000 commerce and trade messages from exhibitors.

CHIC has not only integrated the most excellent industrial chain resources but also gathered leading-edge opinions in this industry, popular trend experience and commerce and trade contact salon. In addition, a series of activities has contributed to garment brands to master reform at market terminal and wind indicators of future development trend.
